La plaza donde se encuentra siempre está animadísima. Adosada a ella (pero con la entrada por la Via della Scala) hay una de las boticas más antiguas de <i style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>Europa: <b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>la Officcina del Perffume<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>  </span>Santa Maria Novella</b></i>, que conserva aún los frescos y mobiliario antiguos y donde se fabrican perfumes y cremas con técnicas de los monjes dominicos de la antigüedad. San Miniato al Monte fue construida entre los siglos XI y XIII con un maravilloso estilo románico de la Toscana, su decoración y materiales son de una exquisita finura, y conserva además en su altar los huesos de san Miniato. Un sitio de una belleza formidable presente en su mosaico del siglo XII. Cerca de San Miniato está el <b style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal'>mirador Michelangelo</b> desde donde podréis disfrutar de una espectacular vista de la ciudad y el río Arno.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin'>Otra vista imponente de la ciudad con el Ponte Vecchio se obtiene desde la <b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>fortaleza Belvedere</b>, en lo alto de los <b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>Jardines di Boboli</b>, los más famosos de Italia, obra cumbre de la jardinería renacentista, un lugar ideal para tomarse un descanso. Estos jardines rodean el<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>  </span><b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>Palazzo Pitti</b>, que fue residencia de los Medici durante 200 años. Este palacio alberga gran parte de su colección privada de pintura, orfebrería, trajes y otras obras de arte.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin'>Una visita completa debería abarcar la <b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>Basílica de San Lorenzo</b>, una de las iglesias más antiguas de Florencia, la iglesia  oficial de los Medici. Contiene dos púlpitos de Donatello, con la pintura <i style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>El martirio de San Lorenzo</i> a la izquierda y varias tumbas realizadas por Miguel Ángel entre las que está la tumba en bronce de Cosme de Medici frente al altar mayor. También es muy interesante la <i style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>Sagrestia Vecchia</i> de Brunelleschi, en el crucero izquierdo. En los sótanos se encuentran las criptas donde está enterrado Donatello y varios miembros de la familia Medici. También hay una gran cantidad de reliquias y tesoros diversos. Desde los claustros de la Basílica se accede a la Biblioteca Laurenziana, la gran biblioteca de los Medici.
